Alternator voltage

Hello, I gave my daughter an led flashlight that plugs into and charges from the cigarette lighter. While in the socket, and the car parked, this flashlight exploded and left burn marks on the upholstery. The power to the lighter is about 13v with the ignition off and 14.6 with the car running. What the hell happened? Anyone else ever experience anything like this? Thanks for any help - Joe T

The voltage readings you got are perfect. Maybe the flashlight battery had a problem and overheated and blew up. Steve
