99 Olds Intrigue Turn Signal Malfunction

The turn signal on my Olds 3.5 Intrigue '99 with 100K doesn't blink. All the bulbs are lit when the headlights are on, so I don't think I need a new bulb. One of the sockets (on the yellow bulb in front that is always lit) is charred and the plastic partially melted and I've thought about replacing it, but like I said the bulb is still lit. The fuses inside the car and under the hood check out, as far as I can tell. Is there a turn signal relay for this car? I had this problem a few months ago and replacing one of the bulbs did the trick, but that isn't working this time. I need help. Thanks.

General - Turn signals and brake lights are brighter than running lights some places require amber for rear turn signals so same cars can be different. First - charring a lens if so isn't right. You may just have the wrong bulb(s) in there confusing everything.
Get that right then if they don't work we can look to see why not - flasher problem or what - take that on if correct bulb and sockets are not the whole problem,

I think it's the right bulb because it worked for a couple months before it stopped blinking. What is this flasher you speak of? Where is it located? I ask because the turn signal clicking noise is at a faster rate than normal.

My data source can be all wrong but seems this uses one flasher for both signals and hazards. I'll try to show what it might look like and where. Colors might be different.
Flasher......
Location - note proximity to brake and gas pedal under dash....This is what it says....

On most W-Body vehicles, the hazard and turn signal flasher is mounted below the steering column.
If the turn signal and/or hazard lamps do not work, first check the fuses. If one of the turn signal lamps goes on when the park lamps are turned on, check the front park/turn lamps on that side for an open or poor connection. If the turn lamps stay on (do not flash) in both turn left and turn right, replace the flasher.
For any of the following symptoms, replace the turn signal switch:

Don't be alarmed if square or round just that it fits exactly where it belongs!

PS: One shown was just $6+ bucks so not the world if that's not the problem IMO. If either side signals or hazards work you should feel the thing ticking so you are sure it's the right one.....

So I went to all the parts stores and they wanted to sell me that flasher you have a picture of above, but I couldn't find anything that looked like it under the dash or anywhere, so I did some research and the best I can tell, the signal flasher runs through the emergency flasher switch, which makes sense because that's where the clicking noise comes from when you use your turn signal, and that flasher costs $114 at the dealer and a lot cheaper at the junkyard. So when I pried open the A/C vent and put in the new flasher and my signal still didn't work, it was back to the drawing board. This time I replaced the badly charred bulb connector and ***drumroll*** that fixed it. Maybe a bad connection between the bulb and the connector is causing a short?

Doesn't matter now and glad you are fixed up. Yes - I still have a pick your own junkyard nearby and do go find assorted wildly expensive dinky things if new, even pig tails for wiring as I'm so disappointed with some crappy new aftermarket ones a good used one is much better and so on. Some of that stuff just isn't available new anyway hacked aftermarket or dealer so what do you do?

Yeah, the canister flasher with the paddle connectors shown in the post above costs $8 but it is not the correct flasher for the Olds Intrigue. The flasher for the Intrigue is part of the hazard button on the dash and that costs $114 at the dealer, that's what I figure though I could be wrong. In any case, the flasher wasn't the problem, it was a charred connector for one of the daytime running lights which shorted out maybe because of a bad connection or too much moisture, not sure.

I got a repair manual and when I looked up "flasher" I got a picture of the hazard button on the dash. Then I went to the dealership parts dept. and asked for a turn signal flasher and they told me it's the hazard button, plus I got nothing under my dash that looks like the diagram posted there above, and the final clue, and the clincher for me, was the fact that the clicking noise comes from the hazard button on the dash, so the hazard button must be the flasher. Who publishes this factory service manual or where can I get one?

If there's confliction data out there it confuses everything. I found that pic from just a parts outlet's site the certainly can make mistakes and it seems they never get corrected.
I last knew of that download Hammer mentioned for one car being $27.50 for one vehicle and think $$ back if not satisfied for a one year subscription. None of it fixes anything but has detailed info but you still have to know what you are looking for or the area of whatever,
