'99 Mitsubishi Galant Sedan Window Problem
|
|
|
I have a '99 Mitsubishi Galant Sedan. I accidentally left my gps plugged in overnight.
Luckily, the battery still seems to work (my headlights work), but my power windows are completely unresponsive. How do I fix that?

Will the car start? If the car will start, then the battery is not the issue. If not, then you need to recharge the battery.

Thank you for the reply!
Yeah, the car starts. But my power windows will not respond, even if the car has been driving for awhile.
I still think my leaving the gps plugged in (and sapping my car's battery) has somehow messed up the function of my power windows. I just have no idea how, and how to fix it.

I seriously doubt that.
The window circuit has to be troubleshooted like a stand alone problem.

Same - most common devices will not kill a good car battery and this didn't if it started. All (not many) of my own quit drawing current when charged or seem to but still never leave them plugged it.
Windows are a coincidence as Hammer said and look for just that issue not the GPS as I totally doubt that caused anything just overnight especially, T

Okay, I'll trust you all on that. I just find it hard to believe that it's entirely a coincidence; my windows happen to not work the same morning after I leave my gps plugged into my car?
In any case, how would you all recommend fixing power windows that don't respond?

Just a thought, and dont have time to check, but does this vehicle have a battery saver function that disables accessory circuits to prevent battery from going dead?

I don't want to look it all up but any relay or fuse should be listed in ownner's manual. Check for power on both side of a fuse.
The I think I'd go on to check for power and ground at the master controls with a plain test light to see if it's going to be more.
That is when the key is turned to position when windows should be working.
I just don't know and tend not to believe the power port or cig lighter you use is on the same circuit? If a lighter and you have it see if it works or test light either type but careful not to touch housing sides with probe to center bottom which is hot as that will blow the fuse for it,

Okay, I feel stupid... Definitely decided to try pressing a button (next to the roll down buttons) that I never noticed before. It made my power windows work again.
I've only had this car for about 3 weeks, so I'm still getting used to it. Thank you all for taking the time to offer me advice.

It happens. Many vehicles use a "childsafe" switch to disable windows or more to stop 'playing' with them. Usually the driver's window still works though?
No matter now as you found the trouble which wasn't,
