99 Intrigue Emissions Test Fail Sign In

My 99 Intrigue 3.5 100k failed its emissions test in Texas because the Catalyst, Evap Sys and Heated O2 monitors had a status of not ready. The inspector wanted to know if I recently had a repair job because the codes seemed to be wiped out, and if I drove a hundred miles maybe the monitors would get a ready status. So I drove a hundred miles and went back but the codes were still not ready. So then he tells me it could be the car's computer. I asked him if he meant the ECM but he didn't know. I asked him if there were error codes (the numbered ones) and he said no. The device he was using stuck under the dash and gave a readout in plain english. So does anyone know if these codes are stored in the ECM? Do you think replacing the ECM would work? And finally, where is the ECM located? Thanks, guys.

What he is saying is that someone has recently cleared the computer of codes and the systems that monitor these system have not had sufficient opportunity to drive under every situation it needs to test these system and give them a pass.

Re: 99 Intrigue Emissions Test Fail Sign In

I'm pretty sure the car erased the codes itself because it's been having a lot of weird electrical issues recently and one of the things that happens is my trip odometer resets to zero. Sometimes it will reset while I'm driving but the common scenario recently is trouble starting. The dash lights will go on and the needles will peg and then everything goes black, no start, and the trip odo resets. Other times the car will start and l have to give it some gas but maybe this belongs in a seperate thread. The point is, lots of electrical problems and computer memory erased. But you don't seem convinced it's the ECM. All I know is the car passed inspection last year and this year I'm having weird problems and I have to blame something, so I picked the ECM because (I think) it's the car's computer. Maybe I'll just keep driving and one day I'll pass inspection, hopefully before I wind up behind bars! Thanks again.

Or maybe you'll be sitting on the side of the road stuck too.

You nay have a connection problem is a power supply somewhere.

I just realized it's probably not the computer because it does store the other codes okay. Is there a way to get the diagnostic codes, other than buying that gadget? Is it OBD-II?

Sure, this way

It's not codes you're looking for anyway

If you have a GM car that won't start and you think you could be going insane, it's probably Passlock. After I realized this I did another relearn (it required 4 of them) and this time it seemed to work, and hopefully it'll stick *knock wood*. Anyway I did the drive cycle and passed inspection. By the way, you can get diagnostic codes from an Olds Ciera by shorting the diagnostic outlet and counting flashes on your dash ( I don't know about the Intrigue) or go to AutoZone.

Not on anything 95 or newer, you can't
