97' Lesabre third brake light loose connection. Sign In

I just bought this 1997 Lesabre for a great price and it has only minor issues. One of them is proving to be an annoyance already though. So my third brake light isn't working when I want it. If I twist/tilt the high mounted brake light socket or third brake light and the socket that connects it(For the life of me, I can't figure out what the heck it is called, it has Pack Con 85 printed on the side though) it will turn on but it turns off as soon as I let go. If tried all sorts of silly ways to fix it but to no avail. So either I need to find a replacement socket or a replacement for that piece that connects to the socket, any help would be greatly appreciated. The light socket is 21wp25-1.

Not sure what you're looking for here. You seem to have it diagnosed and we don't locate parts for you.

If it needs a new light, find a new light.

Huh? Are you just talking about a plug in connector for the unit or just what? There should be more than one bulb in the thing if just a plug connector at this age now and up to you if enough wire to do so cut it off if you can't find it new (bet not) and use shielded crimp connectors so it can't ground out and short. You could still unplug it and be done with this issue but do your best to solder wires first without burning up the car!
First of heard of that as a problem so just maybe back window was broken and the whole show got wet before you got it?? This I'd go whole used except where I am it's too old now they are dumping/squishing cars/trucks that old nothing on it would sell now,

Sorry about that confusion, I have a few pictures that will hopefully help out with this fiasco. And thank you for the response. I tried using this websites photo uploader but to no avail, it is trash.

These images will show the connector piece I'm talking about, I just don't know what it's called. And this next image will show the light socket that connects to it.

The connection between these two items is loose, I was kinda thinking about breaking that plastic housing to that unknown piece and then jimmy rigging it with some electric tape or some Sh!te if I was unable to figure out how to find a replacement/solution to this but I feel like a few things could go wrong. If there's any more info I can provide please let me know.

? I could only get to one picture, the last one. It's freaking out my device to use that site + sorry about this one it's never allowed much for picture hosting.
Just look for the whole unit. The one I saw looked like the wrong bulbs just a maybe was hacked to work once before? Those once on some were unreal high temp halogen tiny bulbs also cost a fortune there's motivation to alter it.

Dump that unit is my suggestion for another - find it used if need be.
Question? Doesn't this whole mess get powered by just a live 12V wire and ground wire? That should be all that's needed to make it light up light bulbs you can then choose or create something to fit.
Only one was a `90 Cutlass Supreme now ages ago was so hot it melted stuff did replace bulbs with OE suggested ones car was maybe 4 years old! Everything near there had been too hot for itself and you may have a hacked unit now I see no way if similar to what I dealt with could last was a failed design IMO.
The other idea is just go to a dealer for GM cars and see what's available new if anything price it out or get at least whole unit part # then you should be good to find it new AYOR @ Ebay or someplace?? IDK the one I deal with so new was junk from the beginning known from new,

Ah, that makes things more interesting. I am going to say that bulb socket isn't my pic but it is the same exact piece. It takes an 1156 bulb. When I took out the old bulb it was rusted in so I needed to use wd-40 and a needle nose pliers, but the new bulb lights up beautifully when I was dinking around with it. But yeah, I'm sure it's a 12v with a ground. There's a black wire and a white(or green, I'm colorblind), I was also thinking of just cutting the wires and just throwing a new socket on there, doubt it would make much of a difference for which bulb socket I pick. You're probably right, it would be easiest to just go to a junk yard or GM car dealer. I was just making sure there wasn't something I can do before bringing it in and wasting a bit of money.

If you want that bulb out just bust it and twist out metal w the needle nose going CC and out.
BTW, guessed it was hacked to work + probably did once and properly? There were no #1156 bulbs off the top of my head used in 1997 GM anything. Maybe a trailer light or lots older and I mean lots!
1156= stop, turn and is large and bright. 1157 is dual filament one bright, one dimmer has two contacts the first uses just one. Doesn't matter now.

See what you can make up but I would use smaller stuff than those bulbs IDK maybe just 194 bulbs just push in used for dashboard lights a lot and more assorted things + not as hot. Good luck, you can do it,

There is nothing wrong with the image uploader. I use it every day.
