Probably best to take driver's door panel off and get a good look around what is or might not be hooked up for 1st rods to door handle and to latch. Hard to see well so mirrors and lights will help.

To me the whole era the window regulators are weak when older and as much as one forceful door slam the plastic parts shatter. You can check if you can move window down or up if part way without using the buttons.

By age also for assorted windows or locks the wires going thru driver's door jam where they bend will break if no action at all check for continuity from inside door reaching to inside car.

Again, first look for broken parts and on to checking wiring too if that item doesn't work at all or make noise.

Suggestions for this and many older cars: Don't close doors with window part open not slam them shut. If icy do NOT pull hard on handles to open doors that are frozen shut by ice. Handles bust so easily they sell them aftermarket in stock still as well as whole window regulators suggested over just a motor.

DIYable but takes a good set of 1/4" drive sockets and obstruction ends and extensions,

If you can hear he motor, it's most likely a broken regulator. These days most of the regulators come with a new motor anyway.
