91 toyota camry Sign In

Last night I started my car and turned on the defroster, lights and radio. after 5-10 minutes I decided to look under the hood at the time and I noticed that the connector on the alternator was glowing red!!! That does not seem right, can somebody explain to me what is happening and how I go about fixing it?

Disconnect the battery and take the alternator connections apart. Look for excessive corrosion or bent or deformed pins. Make sure everything is clean and tight and reinstall. Next, clean the battery terminals and replace cables or ends if they are green. Start the car and turn on the heavy loads. If the connector starts glowing again you will need a multimeter to do a voltage drop test.
The reasons that the connectors are glowing could be:
1) Weak battery causing alternator to overcharge.
2) Defective regulator/faulty alternator.
3) Bad ground.
4) Excessive resistance in circuit resulting in cables and connections heating up.
Clean the connections first and bring to a shop to get the charging system checked and have the battery load tested. If they tell you everything is fine, post back and we can walk you thru the electrical tests.

Re: 91 toyota camry Sign In

I cleaned the contacts on the alternator connector and replaced the possitive batter connector and that seems to have fixed the problem.

I have another problem happening now. the engine vibrates when I stick the transmission into gear and while driving. I notice the vibration a little bit more around shifting. I'm not really sure how to describe the problem, its more like a feeling but I know something is mechanically wrong and seems very serious and could be very detremental. I will see if I can record some audio or post some more details on the issue.
