91 Crown Vic odometer & tripmeter kaput Sign In

Howdy y'all and a special hello to Tom Greenleaf who's been a major help to me and all us by letting us tap into his expertise. I'm back workin' on the ol' Interceptor and I need to fix the Odo before Inspection is due. Can anyone give me a heads up on what to look for? It seems like there is some sort of sensor in the dash but it's a mechanical roll over type odo.

There are little rubber gears inside the speedo head. These will get the teeth broken off of them. If you can find the little gears, they are easily replaced.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Thanks guys. I guess I'll be rippin' into the dash again. At least its the upper part of the dash this time. working under the dash makes it feel like I'm in a Catholic church.....up....down.....sit down.....kneel! Wink

One man's junk is usually my new car. Cool

Hi again,

If it seems real tricky to get the cluster out you could test the cable from the other end (at trans) and you'll need to see if that makes it work. Don't over tighten the drill and if the cable comes out from that end it's broken.

Also.... Be careful at the instrument head if it does have to come out. It's been a while on an older one but you have to watch out for the fine wire/string that makes the shifter indicate the right spot. There may be a clip holding it on the collar of the column and mark where it was. Cable may not give you enough room to pull it out and there should be a fastener holding it by the gas pedal that will allow you some more room to pull it out. You probably will need to shift into low (just turn key enough and may need to hit brake pedal too.) Of course don't leave ign on. Hit back if you get in any trouble and I'll try. T
