88 camaro , problems with the power hatch	Sign In

My hatch motor just keeps running and will not latch. I pulled the fuse to stop the motor so it does not kill my battery, but when I plug it back in it keeps running. I do not know if there is something wrong with the motor or the electrical contacts on the hatch. I think there is something wrong with the contacts, like they are a little off. Please help me with this, I do not wanna go buy another motor and that not be it.

The gearing inside of these pull down latches were bad for striping out and with you saying that the motor is running continuously and not pulling the hatch down, that’s probably what has happen. If this is the case with yours, head down to the auto wreckers and pick up a used unit, their not hard to replace.

I agree, you have a bad gear nut. You can get one at your local GM dealer or from Top-Down Solutions under the "Hatch Pull-Down repair items" category. It is TDS p/n 109111. TDS also has all the other parts you may need to repair your hatch pull-down unit.

Check for eliminating the silly pull down with just a standard hook. They are available for Ford products and it would just shut without a motor like it should. I can't say for the hatch but I'm sure you can find something that can work if you can do without it,............... Just an idea if that will work in this application,
