I have a 83 GMC sierra. Made the classic mistake of leaving my lights on after i realized over night i asked a friend of mine to jump me off and he hooked the battery cables up backwards from the donor car. They were hook up right on my end (not that that makes a difference). we got a little smoke from under the hood not to sure where it came from but they were pulled off after being on for maybe a second or 2. After correcting our mistake i got the truck to fire up but it idles very rough and very low it almost shuts off if i leave it ideling. It seemed to me that it may have been misfiring. so i figured it may have burnt the spark plugs out. i replaced the spark plugs and wires and it still seems to run exactly the same not to sure what my next step would be. i checked the fuses by eye but didn't use a tester and im also not sure if there are any inline fuses i would need to check or how to check the relays if that would even be a problem. Any advice would be great. Sorry for horrible grammar.

Which engine? Does this still have the electronic feed back carb on it along with the ECM?

Have you checked all the fusible links down at the starter? Have the battery tested to be sure it wasn't damaged. If the engine can run, check the charging system voltage at the alternator. Also make sure you don't have excessive diode ripple going on.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It's a 350 5.0L not sure on the carb it is an after market. I went and got the battery checked and it was bad. I replaced it and still the same thing. I didn't expect it to be an easy fix but I might be in over my head I think I will just take it and let someone look at it. Oh and all the inline fuses were good. Thanks for the help. I'll post as soon as I figure out what is really going on
