2011 Lincoln MKS Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Sign In

My 2011 Lincoln MKS base 3.7 V6 started giving me problems with the adaptive cruise control sensor lately. When I have the cruise control on it works fine until the sensor "sees" a car in front of me and the whole system turns off and prompts me to check the sensor. I've cleaned the front bumper where the sensor is and I've also cleaned the front of the sensor its self when I had the bumper off for headlights. It doesn't seem like it got misaligned at all because the bolts holding the sensor to the bracket and the bracket are tight. Has my sensor gone bad or is there something else in an adaptive cruise control system I've neglected to think of?

Also, while looking for sensors in case I need to replace it I've noticed a lot of the same looking sensors made by ford that have the same mounting points with extremely close part numbers. I'm only bringing this up because the sensor on my car (BE9T-9G768-AC) has been impossible to find for under $300, meanwhile a sensor that looks exactly the same but with a part number BE9T-9G768-AD or BE9T-9G768-AE are only about $100 and seem exactly the same. Would there be an incompatibility with using one of these cheaper sensors?

Just thoughts: You'll own those part by all odd if they are not the issue.
What problem do you have with the system default to OFF if it sees a car AND does it come back on when there are none or nothing near to fool it?

IDK what you personally are used to but don't think it's a very good idea to use cruise in a whole list of conditions and should default to OFF but also work later when fine - that's what I'm asking if it works at all and how,

You're really going to have to check with the dealer on those numbers. They look like superseding numbers but I can't say that for sure.

I'm pretty sure these sensors require calibration also. You really need a dealer level scan tool to do anything with this system.

Re: 2011 Lincoln MKS Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Sign In

The cruise control will work with no problems with no cars in front of me, and sometimes work with a car in front of me for a short period then stop working. Also sometimes when I'm behind a car it will give the warning sign when I'm not in cruise control at all. It always comes back to working after I'm no longer behind someone or it has been a few minutes. With a system like this do you think it would be best to just bite the bullet and go to a ford dealership to have them look at it? The closest one to me is 30 miles away so I was trying to avoid that if possible.

Repeating the symptoms doesn't change my response. It needs to be diagnosed correctly using the right equipment.

You don't necessarily have to go to the dealer. There are many independents around that have the right equipment and knowledge to handle this. Make sure they do though.

I'll have to set up a time when I can go to a shop. I have some independent shops around here that I trust that might have the ford scan tools needed.

What you are looking for is a shop that specializes in electrical work and diagnostics. They are the ones with the training and equipment.
