2007 Montana – Interior/Exterior Lighting & Stereo Sign In

2007
Pontiac
Montana
3.5L
115,000 Kms

Purchased this van November 2012. It had 90,000 Kms on when purchased. Van was working fine when I bought it and up until end of December 2013, when I started having issues with the battery keeping a charge. This was the factory battery. I had the battery tested and it was found to be faulty. Installed new battery January 2013. From this point, had no issues for about one year. One morning early December 2013 van would not start, it had no power to any of the systems. Checked battery and found that it was completely drained; and at this time discovered that both battery terminal connectors were very loose. Charged battery and tightened the terminal connectors. Tested battery and found no issue. Early January 2014 got into a collision that damaged the front bumper, front driver side fender, and driver door & mirror. One day mid January came outside to the van and noticed that the front fog lamps and the tail lamps were on. Vehicle was off/no keys in. Checked headlamp switch and it was set to auto. Opened and closed doors and played with the headlamp switch but could not get the lamps to go off. Disconnected and reconnected the battery, and both lamps now stayed off. Started checking most times before entering and exiting vehicle if the fog lamps or tail lamps were staying on. Van drove fine with no more issues until May 2014. Had the collision damaged repaired mid April 2014. One morning early May 2014 around 9AM drove van for 30 minutes. Had it parked for the rest of the morning and afternoon. Went to drive van again at 5PM and it wouldn’t start. Checked and found that same as in January, the battery was completely drained. Checked battery terminal connectors and they were both tight. Charged battery, checked it and again found no issue. One day about one week later noticed the front fog lights and tail lamps were on again same as in January. Vehicle again was off/no keys in. This time I pressed the door lock button on the key fob and both lamps turned off. Near end of May started seeing a new issue. When vehicle is parked and key removed, opening driver door is not triggering stereo or interior lights to turn off. Opening passenger door triggers both of them to turn off. Same issue when first entering the vehicle. If open the driver door, the interior lights do not turn on. If open the passenger door, the interior lights turn on. I have the interior light switch on the default setting, to turn lights on when doors are opened. Forced on and forced off on the interior lights switch control the lights properly. This new issue is not intermittent.

The body control module (BCM) is in charge of controlling most of those functions that you described. You'll probably need to take it to a repair shop that has a high end scan tool that can access the BCM to see if any trouble codes are stored and to do some circuit testing to see why the BCM is acting that way.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
