2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT2 Not Starting Sign In

Hello, I have been having some issues with my Pontiac Grand Prix. It is the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT2 with the 3.8L V6. Out of nowhere my car began having startup issues, where there was loud, quick clicking which sounds like a dead battery. After getting a jump, the car eventually started. I noticed when I was driving that my radio was physically getting hot, and the surrounding area was warm. I ran the car a bit to allow the alternator to charge the battery, and then the next day - the same issue. I used my Black & Decker battery charger to see if the alternator was faulty once I got it to start, and the alternator comes back as fine. I tested the battery, and it said it was charged and not faulty. So I was very confused, and started to believe that the issue was the starter, as after a few times of attempting to start the car, the car would start, but then the clicking happened again and the moment I hooked up the battery charger the car would start normally. I then began thinking it was a short. I connected a test light to the terminal, and the test light began flashing, showing there was a short. I then went to my interior fuse box, and when I pulled fuse 25A (Radio), the test light then went solid, but dimmed. When I put the fuse back in, it started blinking again. What would be my next step to fixing this issue, I could really use assistance.

You should have the battery tested with a load tester and/or conductance tester first. Also make sure the battery connections are clean and tight. If there is corrosion on the battery terminals or the battery is leaking, that has to be rectified before you go any further.

If you checking for a parastic draw with a test lamp, that test is now obsolete since computer modules came around. You need to test parastic draw with an amp meter or amp clamp. Some module will not go to sleep until they time out, so you have to keep that in mind.

The battery has been tested and it still comes up as not defective. Today, I went through my fuse box and found a few blown fuses which I have now replaced, the car is now starting much better than ever. I am not sure if this is the fix for the issue or not, I suppose I will check in the morning to see if a short has drained the battery.

Do you know which fuses were blown?

The battery is drained once again, after it was purposely fully charged, so I am now pretty sure it is a short somewhere. The fuses that were blown were the Radio/Amp fuse, the Sunroof fuse, and the interior lights. How would I go about finding the short, as this is all very new to me.

After charging the battery for a short period of time it says it was fully charged, though when I went to start it after running a few tests (using the multimeter as he explained), the car still wouldn't start without a jump of some sort. Would this point again to a faulty battery? I charged it fully yesterday and it was good for two cranks, didn't try and cranks after that. Any other thoughts?

Just because a battery is charged does not mean the battery is any good. You need a conductance test to determine the available CCA the battery is capable of at this time.

Yes, the battery has to test good and the battery connections have to be clean and tight before you can even think about doing any parasitic draw testing. GM has a lot of issues with their battery side post connections corroding the cable out or the bolts stripping.
