2004 Hyundai Elantra Dashboard problem

The backlight on my dashboard hasn't worked for a couple of months. The individual lights such as the check engine light work but the actual dashboard doesn't light up. I've been driving like this for a while as it isn't that big of a deal for me but last night something interesting happened.
I was driving at night and had my headlights on. Inexplicably, my dashboard started flickering at the same pace a burned out blinker does. It was also making a clicking noise which freaked me out. I quickly turned my headlights on and off which fixed the problem but now I'm back on a mission to go ahead and get that backlight fixed.
I've checked all my fuses before and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Do any of you know where I should direct my attention next?
I should also mention that I used to have a "gallons till empty" meter but now it only shows mileage. I don't know if that has any relevance.

If you aren't having any problems with the illumination or other switches and controls, then your issue is likely in the dash cluster itself because they are all fed from the same connector.
