2002 mazda protege nothing electrical works when ignition is turned on Sign In

Yesterday I tried starting my 2002 Mazda protege and nothing happened, there was no clicking no anything all the dash lights turned off, the odometer turned off. I took the key out and turned on the overhead light to see if there was enough power for that and there was. I proceeded to try to start the car again and after I put the key in the ignition I tried the light again and it wouldn't turn on. I'm thinking this is a faulty ignition switch but I was wondering if anyone else is thinking this may be the problem as well. Thanks in advance for any advice given.

update: went and checked the starter by running a jumper wire from the battery to ignition relay terminal on the starter. The car started, so I'm going replace the ignition switch and I'll let you know what happens.

update: replaced the ignition switch and the car started up just fine. Before the car didn't start the radio went out but I thought that I had just wiggled a cord and unplugged it since I was replacing the heater controls on the dash, but after I replaced the ignition switch the radio started working again.

Have the battery tested and make sure the battery connections are clean and tight.

Two things possible/likely,
Battery really is 99.9% dead and know that one overhead light a watch battery could light so means almost nothing by itself.
No noises - nothing: It also could be battery connections even if they look good the draw from just opening a door never mind starter it can behave like it's disconnected and at other ends of cables that go to It as well.
Try this: Most cars you can force the overheat lights or interior lights to stay on keys or not. Look at it while trying to crank engine if it lights at all. If right then it goes out and nothing happens connections more likely.
Any which way charge that battery with a charger not a jumper box or jump yet. Then it works or doesn't and ready to test the battery itself in car or take it for testing,
