2001 Ford Focus SE	Sign In

I have a 2001 Ford Focus with the V tech engine and automatic transmission .The car has about 116000 miles on her . Well the lately when my Daughter has been driving the car at night she loses says her ABS light will come on and the lights dim . When she pulls over the car dies and won't turn over again until the car sits .The it will start up run and the the same things happen again. I did a check of the the battery and it showed 230 CCA's . I replaced that and checked charging and load . Checked great . A few days later her and I took the car out and got a few blocks away and the ABS light cam on ligts dimmed and heater fan slowed . I turned heater off and it came back and worked . I thought heater fan . So a few days later she's driving same thing so she pulled over truned everything off and it died . Could a heater fan do all this or think bad alternator ? She drives car with no heat and is getting cold and scared . Thanks

You need to do some testing at the time when it dies to see what the condition of the battery and charging system is then. It's sounding like an intermittent charging problem but that needs to be verified.

HT is right. Check the charging system voltage with a volt meter connected to the battery terminals when the car starts acting up. You have battery voltage or less, the charging system isn't operating. You should also scan the engine computer for trouble codes since the engine computer controls the output of the alternator.
