2001 Astro cargo Rear wheel drive. Brake warning Light and abs warning light Sign In

Thanks for the recent help with my a/c Vacum and blower resistor saved hundreds!!!!!!!!!!!

This problem may prove to be more complicated I had a full set of brakes done Rotors/ pads in front. Shoes /drums rear it needed it .
However before I had them done there was a problem with the Abs speed sensor on the front right (Passenger) Side the abs light came on so we fixed that also. Okay I drove away from the garage and
two days went by and the Brake warning light (which was never on )came on and the ABS light both came on . So I brought the van back to the garage they hooked up to check the codes and it told them code
265 was set The original code for the abs speed sensor. They ran down all of these tests and then told me the abs brain maybe the problem I dont believe it the brakes work fine and so does the Abs
The Lights dont come on all the time maybe 40 percent of the time could it be a loose wire Making both warning lights come on or do I throw a very expensive brain at it for a chance that it will fix it .

I Hope My story isnt to confusing appriciate any advice Thanks JTR27

No I wouldn’t say throw parts at the van but if the garage has done the tests they should be willing to stand by their diagnosis, if you let them do the repairs. As far as the base brakes working normally that’s a good thing LOL ABS is a bolt on device that in theory should shut itself off if the module is not capable of doing a self test and passing the test. Or if an input to the module has gone out of its perimeters and the module sees this; it again will shut it self down; turning on the lights and not interfere with base brake operation.
You say the ABS is working fine; have you put the van into an ABS event when the lights are off? As in trying to make the wheels lock up on a damp or gravel road. If so can you hear and feel the ABS system coming on?
A lot of people think that ABS is a must if their vehicle is equipped with it. They also think that ABS can make the vehicle stop faster; both are untrue. There is no law stating that an ABS vehicle must have the system functioning. Here in Ontario when a vehicle has to go through a Safety inspection for the Ministry of Transportation and the ABS is not functioning; I can/must pass the vehicle as long as the base brakes are ok.
As far as stopping faster or in a shorter distance it’s also a myth.
Example: you’re doing 50 miles an hour towards a brick wall and you know you’re going to hit and jump on the brakes. Without ABS the vehicle will slide/skid and hit wherever the skid is going to take you; with ABS you can pick the spot you going to hit because the wheels are not locked and you can steer but you’re still going to hit. Unless you can steer around it and that’s the whole idea behind ABS systems, being able to control the vehicle in a panic stop.
I’m not saying don’t fix the ABS but you have time until you decide to have it repaired.
Dan.
