My wife drove our ( 2000 ford Taurus SEL v-6 w/ duratec engine) the other morning to run errands, later that afternoon, car wouldn't start, turn the key to start & no click @ starter, w/ key in on position, all dash lights, interior lights, windows, door locks, etc. they all work, no dimming of lights, what I've tried so far w/ no success- disconnect battery, check for loose cables, corrosion, battery strength, jump starting, tapping starter w/ hammer, pulled & check tumbler from steering column. BUT w/ key in on position, i'm able to use a screwdriver to arc the starter & engine will start just fine. OK so that's that, from the knowledge I have about cars, my instinct tells me otherwise, the car has the factory alarm system on it, it also has the ford securilock remote start/security system as well, so the car has 2 different keyfob systems attached to vehicle, the factory keyfob works fine, the securilock keyfob doesn/t, I replaced the keyfob battery, went through the motions to reprogram keyfob & still nothing, the 'theft' light is blinking every 2 seconds, also when turning key to start position, I can hear a clicking noise under steering column, possibly a relay?, I've read about valay mode, something about 'starter interrupt', all a bit confusing @ this point, the car is a 2000 year, its 2013 now, surely i'm not the only one who has had this problem, (knock on wood Mad), the answer is out there somewhere besides a dealership, any suggestions will be put to use if reasonable, thnx.

Theft indicator flashing rapidly or glowing steadily while cranking the engine?

As I said in previous post, 'theft' light flashes every 2 seconds. the engine doesn't crank w/ turning the key.

That's nice. Is the light flashing rapidly or staying on while your attempting to cranking the engine?

WinkI see what you did there- attempting to start the engine, the theft light turns off.

Securilock is the PATS (the factory immobilizer). The remote start is probably aftermarket. You'll probably have to remove the remote start system and put the harness back to the way it was when it come from the factory to diagnose it properly.
