2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Weird Electrical problems Sign In

My car has recently been doing a lot of different things electrical wise. It started with my battery dying over-night. I realized when I jumped it and got it back on my headlights were blinking as if the alarm had been set off but there was no noise. I brought it to a mechanic and he couldn't figure out the alarm problem because he said he couldn't find the alarm box or something like that because it was stock lol. So he gave a little thing to hookup to my negative cable for my battery so I could easily get it off at night so my car wouldn't die. Recently after that my car was dying over-night even when I left it unlocked so no alarm would go off, but it would still die anyway and this time when I jumped it after leaving it unlocked no headlights or any lights for that matter came on but something was still draining the battery over-night. After a while my battery (I was assuming) got so bad it would die everytime I shut the car down. I proceeded to buy a new Duralast battery from auto zone today, hooked it up and everything was good but than a few hours later stuff that hasn't happened to me before started happening. When I turned my headlights on my radio would stop working, my car died again after I shut it off but the lights inside my car were still on but very dim and my windows were very slow, this all started to happen after I turned my headlights on. Also now my battery and break lights are on and they've never been on before. Also may I mention when I had the older battery and it got to the point where it died when I shut my car off after I jumped it and tried to drive home the battery would die mid-driving. I don't think it's a battery problem I have people telling me it could be all these different things such as a starter, fuses, alternator and bad corroded wires that connect to the battery. Also lastly while I was driving home most recently and the last time I drove it when I came to a complete stop the RPM meter went to zero but my car was still running, than when I started to drive my RPMs stayed at zero and the car would thump hard inbetween shifts. That's all the problems I've been having within the past 2 weeks. I'm going to take it to AutoZone tomorrow to have my electrical Sh!t checked out but does anybody know anything it could possibly be? Also the car is an automatic.

Also may I add when I had the old battery in and it got to the point where it would die after everytime I shut the car off, I would still hear the cranking sound from the car trying to start, but today with the new battery in when it died and I tried to start it there was no cranking noises.

Don't mix up parts outlets with repair shops. Parts places sell parts, repair shops repair cars AND supply parts and mixing the two up is messing you up IMO.

Perhaps a typo but think the shop found an "aftermarket" alarm system and that probably is messed up. It's your car and you are supposed to know how that particular one operates. It probably set from battery going dead by your description and isn't totally off yet.

This battery game of letting them go dead for any reason and jumping them constantly will just kill the battery over and over and work the alternator so hard it will burn out and probably has.

One issue is probably it's not charging now and that places like Autozone will test the alternator and hear will charge and test battery. That may mean those items are good but doesn't mean the wiring is good or that alternator is charging while installed.

Get a muli-meter and check the output voltage and clean up all the messed up wiring so you or some has something to work with.

Find out YOUR own alarm system and how it's supposed to work. If aftermarket you may want to have it properly removed so you'll do best to find out the brand and how it was installed and restore any wiring.

Seriously if you feel you need an antitheft something I'd do something else that isn't invasive to the car like a "Club" type device.

Once electrical gremlins are fixed then you may probably still have a parasitic drain to find and fix.

Again, if batteries are allowed to go low to dead it will harm or wreck alternators and batteries not meant to constantly charge from that low or dead kills one or both,
