Is my kids mom's car. Have had wiring issues since I couldn't figure out the audio hookups with all their imported wire colors. She had a friend hook it up who spliced and cut a lot of cords. Then when I bought her a better CD player and set up the sub, amp, 6x9s in back & 6x8s up front and the wiring was so messed up but got everything working. Then her brother tweaked out on it a bunch of times and ended up making the interior lights all stop working and the heater and ac would be set on defrost every time the car starts. She just recently took it to a friend who's a mechanic who fixed all the light wiring but the memory for heAt still starts on defrost. He said it was the wiring so I'm just wondering if it's something I could maybe get done myself? Or is it going to require a large amount of interior dismantling? EDIT! The mechanic said it was just a fuse he replaced to get lights working but the dash light and heating issue still remains

most likely the install has created the issue. A wiring diagram and testing to sort the wiring out will be time consuming and require a troubleshooting skill set. a little late - keep it stock - KISS. Mazda makes a good radio. might be a clue - defrost is a default mode maybe the HVAC module is loosing power to memory....hopefully there is NO remote starter to further complicate the issue.
