2000 GMC Sierra 4.3 v6 with approx. 95,000 miles.
When my mechanic can get the code to clear, the engine will run at idle but will stutter and die as soon as the transmission is shifted into gear. There is no power, and the check engine light will immediately come on again. The 1351 code reappears.

My mechanic is stumped. After $500 in parts including a PCM, Coil, Distributor, Dist cap, ignition control module, crankshaft position sensor (also has P1345), and a rotor.

He has removed all the wiring from the loom to check for shorted wires, tested all circuits per the GMC rec. troubleshooting procedures, jumped across specific wires in order to bypass the issue.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! Frown

try checking the hydraulic in the transmission, if not that tell your mechanic to check torque converter. sounds like it started in a high gear.

Ptec,

I don't know if you read my post, but the p1351 code is not related to the tranny.

The reason I mentioned the lack of power when shifted into gear was to point out that the engine had no power under load. If you can explain how the tranny can throw a 1351 code please do.

Also, we changed the fuel pump and it didn't help either.

The condition for setting a P1351 is the when the PCM has ignition control (EST Enabled) and the RPM has dropped below 250. So I’m not sure if chasing this code is going to take us anywhere. Because the PCM is just reporting the obvious, as in the PCM is trying to keep the engine running but it still stalled. Thanks PCM but thanks for nothing we know the engine has stalled. LOL
Code P1345 is something that maybe a bit of a clue Crank/camshaft correlation, as in a very badly worn timing chain? But it (P1345) may also just be from having the distributor replaced and the “ignition timing” as per say is off?
You set the distributor timing with a scan tool, not a timing light with this system, 0 (zero) degree plus or min 2 or 3 degree.
So both codes maybe dead end streets?
Maybe have your guy forget about the ignition system for a bit and concentrate on engine mechanical, fuel supply (pressure) or anything else he can think of that could cause a non electronic stall?
I have a few other questions but don’t know where to begin, as in did he perform a crankshaft variation relearn after touching the crank or cam (distributor) sensors?
Was the PCM flashed (programmed) when it was installed or was it a used PCM from as similar vehicle?
Has he checked service bulletins for anything that may address this?
Here’s a web site that he/you can go to after he gets the calibration code from the PCM. The CAL code is the identifying number of the program the computer is running on.
http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web
Enter the VIN # of the vehicle and click get CAL and follow the prompts. This will bring up all of the up-dated programs that GM has brought out for different driveability or emission issues they found. You never know there mite be something there to address this?
If there is and you decide to have the PCM reflashed you don’t have a choice as in which CAL code to download you get the latest/greatest and all previous will follow.
Sorry I don’t have anything firm to say about this but hope some of this post will help.
Once I get back to the shop and my manuals I’ll have a look for any TSB’s that may address this and post if I find any.
Dan.
