1999 Hyundai Elantra Won't Start No Spark Sign In

1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS
66,000 miles
2.0L 4-cyl. engine

The car was driving absolutely fine and I left town for a day while my folks continued to drive it. When I got home it would no longer start. I found a wire that looked chewed by squirrels near the heat sensor and the heat sensor looked fried too so I replaced the heat sensor and reconnected the wires but it made no difference and is likely irrelevant.

I then had the car towed to a reputable electrical shop (that apparently works on cars that dealerships have trouble with) and the owner of the shop determined that the sensors had power but the computer (ECM) wasn't passing on the signals allowing the car to start. We replaced the ECM and it still looked like a computer problem. We replaced the ECM again to no avail. The car won't start, and the mechanic says there's no spark and is something electrical but hasn't been able to figure out the problem.

Any ideas? My car has been gone for about a month and it's very frustrating.

Thank you in advance

There is a serious conflict with those two statements. Any knowledgeable tech shouldn't have a problem tracking that down.

I agree! An experienced drive-ability tech shouldn't have any problems tracking down the culprit. Replacing the PCM is the last thing you should do after all other possibilities are eliminated.

Is this a tech doing this or did they have a lot of work to get through so they gave the janitor his shot at glory? Obviously your PCM was condemned prematurely.

My question is does this car have proper fuel pressure and injector pulse? Has your mechanic checked these systems or did he just chase down a no spark condition. A faulty crank sensor will result in no spark, no injector pulse, and won't turn the fuel pump relay on. We need to know if the PCM is seeing a tach signal too.

Thank you. I don't know how regular I'll be. I've had one crazy schedule.
