1. What could be the problem with my car, premio 1998 d4 petrol engine, I have to start for several times (3-5) for the car to start. (Hard start).and sometime back firing during ignition process. It has been diagnosed to have engine check code 12, which has failed to clear up. Even after replacing crank and oxygen sensor. I have tried to clearing the computer memory by removing battery terminal and wait for 20 min all in vain.
I recently purchase Eobd/obd2 code scanner to be use it for diagnostic unfortunately the equipment has failed to link with ECU. (D900 SANSCAN OBD2 II Live PCM Data Code Reader Scanner) after the above scanner failed to work for me, I managed to purchase Usb ELM327 scanner to use with laptop also did not work, later I realize I should have purchased another version of the equipment which is able to read non obd2 compliant codes.
Now am very frustrated since all means has failed to diagnose and indicate the problem .I have also replaced the ECU the same problem re-surface.(check engine code 12)
questions
1.what could be the problem the engine(hard start and backfiring)
2. what could be the possible DLC connector type(protocol), the pin layout are 4,6,7,9,13,14,16.(very unique)
3.which is the best scanner able to read the diagnostic code from the ECU.

We don't have this type of car or the scan tool you are talking about here in the states, where this site is based out of, so unfortunately I have never seen one of these or have access to technical data for it.

The manufacturer should have a factory troubleshooting and repair manual for this either in book form or PDF. You will have to pay to get it, and it can be several hundred dollars (not sure how that translates into your currency). We also use aftermarket information sources like Mitchell and Alldata and they do allow people to get a subscription to their data service for one specific vehicle for $27US yearly. I would recommend trying to find out what the shops in your area use for an information server, and check into it that way. It would give you the wiring diagrams and the steps to take to troubleshoot this code to confirm what is broken, and would be much cheaper than throwing parts at it in the hope it will fix it.

Best of luck to you in this.
