1997 vw golf power doors/factory alarm problem Sign In

alrighty, this morning AFTER i got to school, my car decided to not work properly

the power locks went out, and it seems with that, my ability to disarm the factory alarm.

so i cant open a door without setting the alarm off, and i cant disarm the alarm once it goes off, without unhooking the battery, i also cant start the car because the factory alarm wont allow me to, and that also triggers the alarm

we have no idea what is causing this problem, the car was fine this morning, but is how it is now

it also blew the interior light fuse, repeatedly, its normally a 15a fuse, and we put a 30a in it, it hasnt blown the 30 yet

could it possibly be a relay? otherwise i have no service manual for it, and ive no idea where the grounds or wiring are located.

also, everything else works, radio/headlights/tailligh... lights, just not the power locks, and factory alarm disable...

This could be an easy fix. Try changing the battery in your remote. Let me know how you go with that. If that don't work it could be another issue. But try what I recommended 1st.

the crappy thing is, its the factory alarm and i dont have a remote for it, i dont even know if it came with one

to disarm the alarm im supposed to put the key in the door and turn it to the left, and turn it to the left 2 times to unlock every door, once to the right to arm the alarm

but since i dont have power locks, it doesnt work... and the alarm arms itself

OK, next best thing. Go to your local VW dealership. Get the VIN# from your vehicle and tell them you want a remote and a key to suit. They will get the codes from their database and cut you a remote. They will give you specific instructions on how to do the "reset security procedure" follow these steps to a T, as if you do not, the remote will, not work.

If you do not do it this way, you will need a new body control module and new remotes to suit anyways. This is the cheapest solution.

talking with the dealership, he thinks its the alarm module, or bad wiring somewhere, i really have no clue where the wiring is, i dont think getting a remote will do anything, i can stop the alarm from going off when its going off, but i cannot disarm it, it re-arms itself right away, and i have no power locks

This is what I am saying to you. You do not think an alarm with do anything? Once your alarm goes, it immobilises the engine. You need an atication sequence to tell your computer that you are the owner of the vehicle, so it releases the immobiliser.

But, if your mechanic thinks its the alarm module, then you can go with that. I have not seen it, so I don't know. All I know is when you replace the alarm module, or fix it, you will need a remote to activate and de-activate. Unless you remove the entire factory security system. Also you dorrlocks may not work, as part of the shutdoiwn sequence of your car.

I will leave this to you and the VW dealership. Good luck

as far as i know there wasnt a remote that came with this factory alarm, all im spose to do is turn the key to the right in either the driver or passenger door locks, and it will arm the alarm, turn it to the left and it disarms it, and 2x to the left unlocks all the doors

but turning it to the left only stops the horn from going off, and the alarm re-arms itself automatically

problem solved, it was the pump control module, was covered in water from a leak in my taillight... fried the circuit board

Dang, I would not of seen that one coming. And I do apologise for my cruddy spelling in last post. I was in a rush. Glad it's fixed now, or at least identified.

To disable to alarm, unlock the trunk (hatch). It works every time. Crap, I just spend $130 for the dealership to disable the alarm and power door locks. Thanks for the info.
