1996 Pontiac Transport Inst. Clust/AC fuse blowing Sign In

We just had the heater core replaced on the van, and I noticed a day or two after the repair that the instrument cluster was not working. I traced it down to the heater fan. When it is turned on, the fuse blows on the Instrument Cluster/AC (15amp). The RPM and speedometer works fine as these appear to be mechanically driven. Battery Charge indicator, Oil Pressure, Rad temp, and fuel gauges all go wonky.

Work-a-round: We can drive with the fuse in, and no heater fan use, but when we want to warm up the interior or defrost the windows, we have to take the fuse out and do without the gauges.

Could the repair of the heater core have interfered with something that would cause this to blow?

After $500 in repairs, we can't afford another few hundred to have this traced down. If I take the vehicle back, it would be nice if the likelihood of failure could at least be possibly due to repairs already done. It's a pain to keep putting in the InstClust/AC fuse when you want to see how much gas is in the tank. Crazy
