oh ok. not making any noise. no not unless I jumped with a wire at the relay socket 30&87. that is the only time it kicks on

Does your check engine light come one for bulb check when the key is first turned on?

as said in the OP it does not unless jumper wire is in fuel relay socket between 30&87 and then it runs constant

Never mind the pump for a bit - Hammer Time asked you if the "Check Engine" light bulb lit up? It should when you just turn key to run and not start the engine as a bulb check is why.

Some vehicles rely on the bulb working for other things to operate. If any chance it's erratic could confuse things,

No, you haven't answered that question. Read it again.

Re: 1994 f-150 4.9L duel tank no voltage at inertia switch Sign In

no I didn't have a spark when the spout in. took it out and spark happened. put it back in and no spark again. Also light comes on for a few solid and then blinks 1 then 3. I answered the same question twice earlier because I didn't see the second page. I am needing to run into town and get a few things. Do I need any special tools today or fluids? I just don't know if I can get this site on my phone yet.

If you jumper 30 and 87 in the fuel relay cavity, so the pump runs all the time and you remove the SPOUT, will the engine start and run?

Re: 1994 f-150 4.9L duel tank no voltage at inertia switch Sign In

didn't start with 30&87 jumper and spout remove; but battery needed charged I thought. I did a series of no spark test which showed needed a coil and icm. went ahead and replaced them since both had life time warranty. still shows icm bad?? and so I am here now. Went ahead with battery charged and checked to see if relay in and checked for spark spout in; NO spark. then spout out; Yes spark. still no start with spout out and 30&87 jumper wire though. Is it my computer?

Re: 1994 f-150 4.9L duel tank no voltage at inertia switch Sign In

No spark unless SPOUT is unplugged and you don't have fuel pump prime when turning on the ignition sounds like a computer issue. You need to check powers and grounds to the computer before condemning it. Just don't go replacing anything unless you test your circuits first. You found that out by replacing your ICM and coil.

You at least need to see if you have a 5 volt reference at a sensor. The easiest one to check would be either the TPS or the EGR position sensor 5 volt reference. You should see 5 volts on the brown/white wire of either of those two sensors with the ignition on. That will tell you if the computer is even working.

ok will check today. KO with volt meter checking for 5volts. Will have to figure out what those parts are first but will get back with info

KO at TPS gave me 11volts

What does KO mean?

That isn't right. There shouldn't be 12 volts sitting on brown/white at the TPS. Are you positive about that? Check the EGR position sensor connector on brown/white. Do you get the same voltage?

I suspect it means "Key on"

yes you said to have the key on. I probed the wire you said to with the red volt meter cord and grounded the black. so does that mean I have power to the computer?

Re: 1994 f-150 4.9L duel tank no voltage at inertia switch Sign In

Thanks for letting me know what you meant by KO. Usually it is KOEO (Key on engine off) or KOER (Key on engine running), so I was confused.

There should not be 11 volts sitting on the 5 volt VREF circuit (brown/white). Pretty sure you have a short to 12 volt power circuit somewhere. Fairly certain the computer isn't going to work with 11 volts sitting on its 5 volt regulator.

You need to figure out what the 5 volt reference is shorting to.

I believe the only sensors that use the 5 volt reference circuit are the MAP, TPS, and the EGR position sensor. Start by unplugging all those sensors and see if your 11 volts short goes away. If it doesn't, you either have a short somewhere in the wiring or there is something wrong inside the engine computer.

Re: 1994 f-150 4.9L duel tank no voltage at inertia switch Sign In

wow. ok this seems like it might take me awhile. will do. I didn't tell you when we replaced the icm (mine is black) from autozone the new one tested bad again; so I got my money back went to o'riellys instead; this is the thing I wanted to tell you; the starter solenoid acted like it was going bad but I pulled the wire off that goes to ignition and tested with a test light and it showed good then put it back on and it did crank. not sure if that was anything other than a loose wire, but at this point I am not sure about anything
