1994 Lincoln Town Car
4.6l V8

Hello, gents
I just did a long job that turned into a two-dayer to clean out the egr valve (could that thing be in a worse spot?).

I cleaned out the valve and the channel, but the check engine light is still on and the KOER test gave me codes 632 and 326. One of those is because I did the KOER test wrong somehow, I know that much. What's next? The EGR code, I believe, says its insufficient voltage to the sensor, and I read that a ford repairs website.

I ran a can of the sea foam spray through the intake right after and I don't know if it was the egr cleanup or the can but the engine runs real smooth now; new spark plugs are on the list too.

I disconnected the battery during the job too, fyi.

This relates to the DPFE sensor. There will be 2 rubber exhaust hoses attached. Check the hoses for damage or leaks. If the hoses are OK, it's likely a bad DPFE sensor.

Actually, I got a real good look at both those suckers while I was cleaning out the valve and they are in perfect shape, so it's on to the DPFE sensor.

Ok, so I replaced the sensor, put everything back together, started the car and let it run until it reached operating temperature, and then performed a KOER test which gave me no codes whatsoever when I ran it, meaning I fixed that code.

BUT :).........I test drove it right after and less than a mile down the road the check engine light came on again. I tried this three times; turned off the engine, turned it back on, and then drove a mile and got the check engine light. Is it a leftover code that I gotta get the light cleared by a professional after fixing the problem?

It's hard to say. You should always clear the codes after a repair.

Clear it and we can go from there if it come back.

If it does, post the number here.

Not necessarily. You can go to Autozone and they will do it for free.

Disconnecting the battery will do it but it will also delete all the adaptive memory.

I disconnected the negative on the battery during the work. Should I disconnect both this time and drain the capacitors?

You don't have to disconnect both of the them but touch the cables together while one is disconnected.

There is no code number; that hasn't changed.

Of course there is a code number. If the check engine light came on and you have disconnected the battery since, there will be a code stored.

Maybe your equipment can't read it.

Then you need a better scan tool to read memory.

I'll work on that, but until then, since the EGR code is gone and the work is done I'm closing this thread and starting a new one for this new light once I find out more info.

No, if the code is EGR related continue in this thread. If it's unrelated, let us know and I will close this one.

Of course, but I doubtthat it's egr related. The car had two rough starts yesterday and it still sputters while driving, so I'm going to check the fuel system out and see if the pump is working properly, check pressure and all that jazz, then move on and check the shockers if i don't find a problem there.

The check engine light has always gone on after about a mile down the road, now that i think about it, whereas the egr would have to wait until the car gets up to temp - at least that's what I've picked up on the interwebs about this particular problem. I dont knoe, i think i have two seperate issues here, and until i get my hands on a code reader ill take the long route to finding the issue.

Most parts stores like Autozone will read them for free if they have OBD1 capability.

The stores around here don't supply OBDI, unfortunately. the O'reilly nearby will be able to support that when they get their new fancy loander rig which has attachments for all possible obdI hookups, but they won't get those in until after the virus goes away, so they said.

I used a fuel pressure tester kit and I checked the pressure in the lines. Key-on-engine off, no pressure reading, when the motor is running it hangs out around 27-28 psi and only just to about 31-32 psi when I rev her.

Ford's OBD 1 should have plug Underhood and blank single plug like a tilted trapaziod can just count blinks for code readings. If you haven't already done that for codes that's all I know of you'll get it's not that brilliant. Now see if picture of it shows below always a wonder at this site?

Here>

That's all I have which is 99% a book of interpreting the #s you get. Device blinks Underhood is all you get doubt sold anymore?

That pressure is really too low.

Key On Engine Off 35 - 40 psi
Key On Engine Running 30 - 45 psi

Yeah, I've been using the paper clip test a lot lately. It's not helping this going around since I probably need a more sophisticated system.

If my readings were taken correctly during the fuel pressure test, than I was right about there being a problem in the fuel system. I'm tempted to go check them again, though, cause I got no pressure during the prime at all and I maybe I didn't have the tester on there correctly, but the engine not getting adequate fuel could explain the engines performance problems.

Fuel Filters: If you find a deal get a couple and do on a schedule. Ask or look for spare clips if you haven't fussed with one have extras, T
