1993 Holden Nova Stereo Not Working - Constant 12V Power Sign In

Hi guys, new here...

I have a 1993 holden nova SLX (1.6L, ~125000Km) and I replaced the stereo about 6 months ago - with a *little* bit of a dodgy wiring job... anyways, was cleaning the car a couple of weeks ago and the stereo had stopped working the next time I turned the car on. Assumed it was just my dodgy wiring job (although when i looked, the wires were all still well insulated, not touching each other or the chassis) got some clips and re-did it nicely, and it still didn't work. Checked all the fuses, nothing there. Tested the constant 12V power supply cable and it looks like that could be the issue, as not getting a reading on the voltmeter.

Two questions:
1) Is it likely that it is the constant 12V cable and if not are there any other ideas for what it could be?
2) If it is the aforementioned cable, how much would it cost (on average) to take it to an auto electrician and get it fixed/replaced?

Thanks in advance guys

Can't guess how you supplied power to begin with. If you fused it and should have check that and on to the source you used for power. A simple test light might be easier to just tell if power is there. If you used just any "hot" wire you could find and it worked before you need to check fuses for that.

Easy on "dodgy" wiring. You may be OK with a 1993 but don't do that again. Newer stuff you could blow expensive items and really cause troubles,

Oh, i used the wires that were there from the previous stereo (trying to find a wiring diagram was a pain in the ass but i got there in the end) and matched up the wires, so there was no random patching in... by dodgy wiring I meant that instead of just splicing the wires together, I kept the factory wiring harness and cannibalised some SCART pins to fit, then insulated with red tape... not the best idea, but it did the job. The power WAS working fine, but for some reason it won't turn on now, and the constant 12V power wire is not giving a reading on a volt meter (+terminal to wire, -terminal to ground). The accessory wire is giving a reading (when ignition is turned on of course).

This vehicle not sold to the US where most regulars are from. Stereo anything not my thing as too many types and features for me on so. Here they have adaptors such that you wire new radio or whatever to just plug into the vehicle's existing wiring not having to mess with it.

I'm not fond of tape for auto wiring except over a soldered and shrink wrapped splice as needed. Not sure why this happened when it did. Something bumped or who know while doing something else or just bad luck?
