1993 Chevy Lumina Euro - Headlight Chime Sign In

I have a 1993 Chevy Lumina Euro (3.1 engine/ 93,000 miles) The headlight and ignition key chimes don't work. The seatbelt warning light doesn't work and the doors don't lock when the car is put in gear. These are all tied to the driver's door pin switch. However, the dome lights work, so the pin switch isn't completely bad or even bad at all. I don't know where to start. What should I check first? - Thanks

Hmmm - This may be sensing the door is open or closed by the latch for the chimes/warning light/auto lock at the latch inside not just a push button for dome lighting in a door jam. Worth checking on that and at the age how tightly the door closes latch to body anchor,

If you bought the vehicle and it wasn't working, it is possible that someone may have unplugged the chime module. You should first make sure the module is plugged in. The chime module is located in the component center which is behind RH side of the dash near the blower motor.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Tom,

Thanks for the quick response. Those functions are controlled by the driver's door pin switch.
That pin switch is actually on a separate circuit from the others. I will look towards the chime
module for the initial troubleshooting (based on Discrete's reply which follows).

Thanks again for your assistance.

Discrete,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I did locate the chime module. It was plugged in.
I removed it and checked that the contacts and socket were not corroded. I
put the chime module back in it's socket. Unfortunately, I still have the problem.

The module did work at one time and just stopped working a week ago . No
electrical work was recently done (which may have damaged the module).
It likely failed from old age.

I probably need to replace the chime module, but I'm having trouble finding one.

When I find one, I'll let you know if that was the problem.

Thanks again.

The chime module started working again. The only thing I did was replace the battery.
I don't see how this would fix my problem. Maybe it did or maybe it was just a coincidence.

You just went out of your way to fix everything that I have disabled on my own cars that irritates me. To satisfy my curiousity, I ask why you would want to fix them in the first place.

I do find the headlight chime useful. I can do without the other functions.

I actually didn't go out of my way. I gave up on the idea of repairing the
problem since it's hard to get a chime module for a 20 year old car.

I replaced the battery since the old one was shot and the module started
functioning again on its own.

Maybe disconnecting the old battery and connecting a new one somehow
"reset" the module.
