I just recently replaced the ignition switch on my truck due to the key breaking off in the ignition cylinder. Before this happened the truck had no problem starting. Got a little ignorant and rushed to put in the ignition so needless to say I didn't read the instructions. When I remounted and assembled the ignition I didn't un-hook the battery terminals. I checked the battery and all the fuses but everything seemed to be ok. I'd appreciate the help, thanks

Start off with making sure your battery has a full state of charge and passes a load test. Most parts stores will do that for free. Second, you have already explained your rush on the job without proper knowledge yet refusal to take 5 minutes to read the directions. Thats a very bad idea as you now see. At least you admitted to it though, so that gives you a +1 in my book. Did you test the fuses with a voltmeter, test light or just looking at it? Have you checked the small wire at the starter solenoid for voltage when the key is in the start position? Sometimes you go to fix a problem and right as you are done fixing that another problem that was about to happen suddenly shows up. Makes you second guess yourself. Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?

It's not about trying something. It's about systematically eliminating things in the circuit by following a wiring diagram. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Did you replace the ignition switch or did you replace the lock cylinder? Do your dash warning lamps come on when you turn the key to the on position? Remove the ignition switch and make sure the the part that engages the ignition switch turns when you rotate the ignition key. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I only replaced the lock cylinder. I tested the ignition switch, it Works fine. The lights in the dash light up but no head lights. Thanks for your response

Do you have power to the white/black wire at the ignition switch when you turn the key to start? Do you have power after the switch on the brown wire when you turn the ignition switch to start? This shouldn't be that complicated if you understand how to check electrical circuits and have the right equipment, especially since HT supplied you with the wiring diagram. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
