1977 custom20 pick up wont turn over

Hello i have a 1977 custom 20 Chevy pick up, i believe it is 8 cylinder.
truck would not start it was very hard to turn key, so we replaced key ignition lock.
still would not start, had starter tested it was good. battery is putting 12 out.
we were told to try neutral switch and we can not locate.it and that is where we are at. please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Putting 12 out? What is that supposed to mean? Did you have the battery load or conductance tested?

Do you have battery voltage down at the starter on the solenoid trigger wire with the ignition in the start position?

If you don't even know if it is an 8 cylinder or not, I really don't see you being able to troubleshoot anything here. I don't know how you expected a non-electrical item like a lock cylinder to fix an electrical problem.

12 amps, when the starter was touched with a screwdriver it made a noise as if wanted to start. i will test on the ignition wire and see thank you i appreciate the help im just trying to find any help.

Hopefully your battery has more than 12 amps. You probably mean 12 volts. How did you determine you had 12 volts? Did you measure it with a volt meter? You never answered if you had your battery tested to be sure it is good.
