12 Focus Electrical Question (could apply to anycar) Sign In

So I started to install a remote start on my ford focus and when I was looking for the wires I am supposed to splice into on one of the BCM plugs I decided to not go through with it cause the instructions were not accurate nor detailed enough so I plugged everything back in and after hooking everything back up I noticed my blower motor didn't work no setting worked on my air 1, 2, 3 but it lights up and my ac light comes on and ac compressor kicks on when I turn it to cold and I also noticed my Airbag light stayed on and lastly I noticed my auto lamp parking light switch fogs and dimmer (all on the same panel) none of them worked didn't light up either. So upon checking the voltage with my multimeter with the blower motor turned off I read 13.1 which I knew was normal when I turn it on to first speed on the dial the multimeter reads a -13.1 which I've never seen anything like this so I would like to know what this means or what could cause this to happen it seems extremely strange especially since all I did was unplug plugs when I was going to install this crappy remote start no wires cut only plugs were unplugged nothing more and I made sure everything was put back the way it was. So I am looking for someone brain to pick or someone's knowledge to guide me or tell me what could cause this weird thing to happen. I am new to the forums and Am looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys so if you have the time to answer my question or give me some insight I would be sooo grateful. Thank you. I do have basic knowledge on DC electrical but this is over my head for sure. Fuses are good I checked them all so ill get that out of the way

? You just began to unplug things and all this? Just connectors, the plastic is junk, in doing just that you start the risks of troubles for a "crappy remote start" thing! Why?
BCM and the such all thru cars are enabled by send ground signals you may have lost just touching anything.
I think if car is even OK to drive perhaps go see from a high end code reading if it can even communicate and what it comes up with. Forget that thing or about anything else that's going to mess with OE wiring or function of the vehicle the stuff at best only works for a short time and you end up with endless problems or worse a car you can't even use anymore,

let me start off by saying thank you for your reply but no I didn't just go unplugging any and every plug I came across I downloaded the wiring schematic and found the BCM plug containing the wires that the remote start was called for and this isn't the first time ever unplugged electrical plugs in a vehicle. I could understand if I spliced into it and out pulled out pins in the plug but I've never experienced a vehicle developing problems by such a simple thing I was thinking they made these plugs to be removed if needed and that's why they weren't hardwired. But yes it did end up being a crappy remote start of course if it was advertised that the instructions wouldn't come anywhere close to matching my vehicle rather than saying "easy self install with detailed video walkthrough" cause as dumb as your trying to make me sound for prepping for an installation of a remote start I would have never even bought it knowing it was crappy remote start for the price of 160.00 and reading the description saying otherwise but that's. but I appreciate your recommendation and advice on seeking a advanced code reader

I'll try to be concise: Reason(s) not to touch wiring, plug made to undo even! The plastic suks, the connections inside are cheap junk IMO the newer vehicle the worse! Why? There's so much wire (cheap) and stuff computer watched or controlled it's too costly to use great stuff. Trust me I hate it.
Been at stuff since wooden wheels this crap takes wild time for some stupid thing I'm doing more now on my own is zinc braided grounding straps crumbling to dust in my hands. Those complete the circuits or nothing is going to electrically flow some off the wall things happen.
Some examples: Something needs ground because of a break or weak just seeks another route if possible or nearby then all hell breaks loose.
This is the STRONG reason not to put junk in like remote starters, alarms and features the vehicle didn't have find something that just plugs in a power port and doen't mess with the wiring.
Remote starter in particular as nice as it seems to get into a warmed up or cooled down vehicle just makes no sense to me as a luxo feature. An airwave signal now all over the what if's it does or doesn't in the wrong place like inside a closed garage as clean as things run use up all the air. Doesn't make common sense to me.

Alarms too. Find a fuse to pull if that worried. Determined theft the other popular thing if a real pro wants parts (not the car) they'll just take it and dump what they don't need off it.
So think hard about adding stuff at least stuff that isn't clear as can be colors and diagrams what you can and can't do without risk. That stuff they don't care just sell, sell, sell stuff and who cares what it does to you?
So I suggested a code reading see if it's all over the place or comes back with a dreaded "can't communicate" opens Pandora's box looking for exactly where the problem is.

See what comes up then let's see from there.
Other: Fuses? Check for continuity not just looks there's too much all at once unless on one fuse you missed you could see,

Let me try to be real clear about this.

You didn't have a problem to start with.
You unplugged the module harness
You plugged the harness back it
You now have a series of Body Control failures

Common sense should tell you the problem originated from something you did. You may not have fully seated or locked the plug in or you may have bent one of the pins over or something like that.

These newer system are far more sophisticated than you can comprehend. Many of these switches are not simply off and on. Many work on digital data networks or varied resistance signalling.

Go back and check everything you touched again.
