I think I have a short. The radio comes on, won't play for a few minutes, then comes on. Now, in addition, there is a loud rythmatic sound, like something popping. How do you find a short? The antenna also won't retract. Is there a connection?

mcrup; Could easily be a connection between the symptoms. Disconnect the power going to the antennae and see.
