Stereo Connection Help + 1987 nova! Sign In

Hello,

I got a 1987 chevrolet nova for a gift about 2 years ago when i was first getting my licence. I first put a kenwood deck, kenwood 6.5's, kenwood subs and a sony amp into it. Now here is where the problems occur.

It works fine up to about 20/35 volume with the subs at a decent amount of power. Once i go above 25/35 or turn the subs up, the Car Deck ( The faceplate ) starts to flicker and shuts off completely, like it's not giving enough power, or its taking to much power to play.

The weird thing is, it's ONLY the deck that flickers/dimms at every bass note, not the car lights, dash etc. I'm wondering why it just shuts off when played at a loud volume (it's loud, but not like some of the cars round here). It's just the deck too.

ANY help would be appreciated!

also a point to add.

My amp is only 200 rms to 2, 10 inch kenwood typhoons.

Just any advice, or something i could do to try to fix this would be appreciated.

More than likely at that volume level the deck is clipping. It is not powerful enough to drive the amp at high levels. Try installing a preamp between the deck and power amp or even a small graphic equalizer. Any power boost should help the problem.
Good luck
Steve
