CD Player in '08 Silverado not playing discs

Sorry if this is a repost.......
I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado LT truck with the navigation system, and my cd player in the NAV/stereo system no longer plays discs. It will attempt to read for a minute or so, and ultimately ends up spitting out an error message that says "disc error".
Ideas? Solutions?
I was actually thinking of just putting in an aftermarket stereo as a solution, but if I can avoid doing so, I will.

Have yout tried cleaning it? The slot does allow dust to get it, dirt comes in on discs and if you smoke in the truck it can also get a film of crap on the lens of the CD player. I've had a few of my own fail from smoke until I got the kind that flips down to add a disc. Try using a can of electronic duster with the straw to get as much dust and crap out of there as you can. Then run one of those cleaning CD's in it to dust off the lens itself. If that fails to work, you'll be looking at a replacement deck. Also, does this do this with a brand new disc in?

Hi, thanks for your advice!
Yes, it will definitely do it with a new disc. It used to be that it would not play a disc if the deck seemed to be "hot"........heat on inside truck, loud music etc.............but after a sufficient 'cool down' period, it would fire back up again. Now it won't a single one at all.
I will try the compresed gas 'spray bottle' idea and see how that goes. Hopefully that will work.
Failing that, I guess it's off to the electronics shop for a new cd player :(

If its working when you first start it I get its gummed up with dirt and overheating like any electronics will when full of dirt. May want to go as far as removing the deck from the car to really give it a good cleanout. That duster spray works pretty good.
