2005 F150 L rear speaker cuts out Sign In

I have been having a problem with my left rear speaker cutting out. When I increase the volume, it comes back on. i thought it might be the radio (Ford factory 6 disc) so I re-installed the original single cd/tape deck and it still happens.

I thought it might be a bad connection or a grounded wire but when I increase the volume, everything works fine. Any suggestions??? I did upgrade the factory speakers so I suppose it could be a faulty speaker but why would it work with increased volume?.

It could be a problem with the wiring or even the speaker itself. I would take a look at the speaker and make sure the connection is secure and no wires leading to it are exposed. When the speaker is mounted, check to see if the terminals are not touching any metal part of the door. Also inspect the speaker to see if it is in good shape or not. The inside coil could be slightly damaged.

Also, what kind of speakers did you use to upgrade with. If you used speakers that are high wattage and require an amplifier, your factory stereo is not powerful enough to push the speakers and that could possibly be a reason.

Thanks for your response. The replacement speakers are Infinities rated at around 45 watts so that isn't the issue. As it turns out, it is the new wiring harness/speaker adapter from the Ford plug to the speaker. It has a loose connection so I will order a new one. Hopefully that will remedy the situation.
