1996 Honda Accord AM/FM Sign In

I have a '96 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, 169K miles. When I'm listening to the radio set on an AM station, it will switch to FM all by itself. The indication shows that it is still set to AM, but it only receives FM. This goes on for hours, or sometimes days, and then all of a sudden it starts picking up AM stations again. When this problem happens, I can push the AM button repeatedly, but it still will only receive FM. Is there an electronic switch or something causing this problem? Can it be repaired? Thanks for any help you can give me!

This one is kinda strange. I think it may be this:

Your stereo has an automatic tuner, which means if the station goes weak or dead it will find another station automatically (you can fix this on most by pushing and holding Tuner button on most units). Because AM broadcast at quite weak frequency, when you go out of range your unit jumps into action.

2. Your AM/FM button could be shorting. But I think it is the latter of these 2.

Solution: Upgrade antenna, upgrade unit, look for loose wires in back of unit.
