Has anyone have had the pleasure of trying to remove the speaker grilles from the Dash of a 72 eldorado convertible, I cant find any info anywhere. I am fairly mechanicly inclined, no signs of any screws or bolts and I admit I dont want to break anthing the dash is in fantastic shape but the speakers are blown.

You may want to surf out a Cadillac specific site for some parts for this gem. Love that exact year. Owned a zillion non Eldos 60s-70s. If you can post a pic of just the grille as it looks it would help me.

Local + friend's shop to me did accidentally harm the grille on a 60s "DeVille" something and may not apply to this. I was able to make new grilles non OE that looked nice out of hardware store window screen that can be dyed to color. That car was not a show car - just a nice driver.

My guess is if these grilles are on dash pad with nothing showing to remove them they have tangs like tiger tooth prongs that just bend to hold unseen from underside that of course you can't get to refasten with it in place.

You may need help getting speakers that both fit and work properly. Yup - plain sunlight can wreck them.

You are right on with NOT wanting to wreck anything in that dash. Part metal crap part plastic stuff so watch out - super glue ain't so super.

Neat car. Hit back if this is a gem for sale.........

Body shop supply stores sell a set of plastic prying tools made for interior work, as the plastic doesn't tear up panels like a metal screwdriver would. I would try cutting a strip out of thicker plastic, like a 5 gallon bucket lid or something. Form the edges smooth and try gently seeing if you can get the grills to move a bit, which would indicate Tom's idea of how they are installed is correct. You may be able to get them out with your homemade trim tool with some patience and a gentle touch without harming them. Definately look into the aftermarket for tips and parts for this very sweet ride. Hemmings is a great source for things like this and you will find a lot of vendors selling everything you can think of to make this car what you want it to be.
