'01 mazda protege lx stereo won't turn on Sign In

Hello,
I recently purchased a '01 mazda protege lx, price was knocked down for stock am/fm cd stereo not working. The fuse is good. One dealer said I need a pin or code # to get it to work after battery went dead. I have looked in owners manual and tried google and found nothing. Am I on a wild goose chase or can someone help?

Thanks

Edit* This is the first Factory radio I have owned in some time and i wasn't aware of anti theft codes which seems to be what I'm looking for. I will attempt to contact dealer next week unless some one knows of a free website that has these numbers that would be helpful!

Thanks again!

Re: '01 mazda protege lx stereo won't turn on Sign In

? #1 assorted sounds systems are not my thing for details for each. If you are sure this is the original factory set up AND that it is supposed to shut down (it might be set to do that or not?) then you may need a dealer to recover any PIN or procedure to wake it up or might have been told a bunch of bull on a plain broken radio?

Even if there was one easy way to make it work and it's down on purpose due to lack of power to it then it wouldn't be one easy fix or the idea of anti-theft for it would be useless.

Well, you got some$$ off because it didn't work so seller didn't have a clue if just some PIN so next step is a dealer if known factory or a stereo/sound system specialty shop for suggestions, fix or get another set up properly installed. Some are NOT that much for decent stuff,

Does the radio even turn on? Usually if the radio theft system is activated "LOCK" will appear in the display.

I'm more and more sure the stereo is bad, no i don't even get a locked out message. No message , no lights, no nothing.

You should pull the radio out, so you can get to the back of it and make some power and ground checks using a volt meter at the electrical connector. If you have powers and grounds, good bet the radio is kaput.

Thanks everyone for your help and time! The car is for my daughter, we are going to get a new stereo with all the current tech, if we find what the problem was during replacement I'll post here!

If you go to install another radio, get the electrical harness adapter. That way it is plug and play and you don't have to hack up the original harness.
