clicking noise when clutch pedal is released Sign In

Hi

Just had a new car today it is a renault megane and its an 06 plate. When i put my foot on clutch its fine but when its released and comes back up it makes a clickin sound. No problem changing gear just makes a clicking sound or as if its catching a clip lol thats how i can describe it. Anyone know what this could be and is it major. Like i said gears work fine and its only when clutch comes back up to usual position. Thanks in advance!

Will it make this noise with the engine off just sitting there? If so, get your head down there with a light. Most cars have a clutch switch and you may just be hearing the switch as the pedal makes contact with it. Can't be too sure, as they don't sell that make on my side of the pond and I've never gotten to see one.

The throw out bearing slides on a round housing for the front of the transmission. If the shaft is not lubricated it will cause the throw out bearing to bind and pop as it slides on the shaft. If the bellhousing has a hole for the fork to slide through, you may be able to get some lube on it. Just be careful not to get any on the clutch.
