my aircon pump does not work and is making a noise like the bearings have gone it kinda runs piggy back via a shaft to the power steering would it be possible to separate it as a quick fix until i can afford to replace ac unit, any help welcome many thanks Sean

You do mean A/C compressor? Try unplugging it, tie the connector safely away and see if the clutch itself is still OK as a pulley alone and you could just take your time to fix the problem.
A/C compressors are two things. Just a pulley when not engaged, then when engaged that pulley and its bearing isn't doing anything really and the shaft of the compressor and all its parts are working.
If just the pulley part which is the clutch and just a bearing most can just have the bearing replaced. If not so easy and you know the A/C is screwed and need the vehicle you'll have to look to see if you can bypass the compressor entirely with a different belt or get an exact used one to just sit there as a pulley left unplugged.
I don't suggest using, used compressors to fix A/C nor even rebuilt ones and if internally gone bad there will be plenty more to do than just the compressor for it to be right again.
What model year is this thing? Could be me but didn't think a diesel was sold in this vehicle at least for the US market but might be?
If popular enough, a bypass blank bracket with a pulley might be available. If you want it to work later you should minimize the problem now.
If this is using refrigerant 134a with PAG oil you really can't leave it exposed to air so if you open the system it should be plugged off.
Need to know if it's clutch or the compressor itself to suggest more. Again - you can fix just the clutch in most cases but need to know when it makes the noises, when engaged or just at idle. If quiet when head of compressor is still you can just unplug it. If the noise only occurs when that is spinning it's more work,

Chrysler minivans sold in the US only have gasoline engines, so none of us here have ever seen the diesel or have any access to tech info about it. Is there any way you can take some good pics of what you're looking at or even a video of it? Pics you can upload to an image hosting site like Photobucket and vids through YouTube. Then paste the link into a post and we can see what way your engine is set up.

am afraid it makes noise when spinning on or off  , it dosnt have a pulley the power steering pump has the pulley and the ac unit is turned via a shaft from steering pump and was wondering if i could uncouple, this does not look obvious and have no manual for clues, 
it is a chrysler grand voyager se 2.5 turbo diesel thanks for all your help so far

I have never even seen a setup like that....I'm sure it was engineered for a reason (other than hating techs) but without having any base line to go off of, it's really impossible to tell......A picture may help..
I imagine it would be field servicable, meaning you should be able to replace the compresser with out changing the p/s pump. So it that was the case then it would be removable......BUT it wouldn't totally surprise me to find out that they were changed out as a unit either...
I know it's not much help but it's like asking a vet to work on a human or visa versa.....While the basics might be the same, they would be 2 completely different systems.....
Call around to some local shops, there may be some good advise or help there.....This may be a common failure in your neck of the woods...

Take a look, up load a pic if you can.....
Like I said, go ask some local techs....It would be better if you go to the shop in person, try to find someone who isn't busy........If you pull someone off a job, odds are they won't be of too much help......

I don't no whether you have fixed this problem or not but just thought i'd give you some info. I too have a chrysler grand voyager 2.5 diesel and i have experienced this. My air con pump ceased when my husband was in Scotland and had to brought back by AA because nowhere seems to stock this part. It took me 2 weeks to be able to get it fixed because the part had to be shipped over. Three different garages gave me quotes to fix this and the cheapest was £1100. Luckily i found someone to do it for £600. My advice would be to replace the unit as soon as you can as it's a bugger to try and get the part. Also i managed to get my hands on a manual but had to buy from America under the heading "dodge caravan". Hope this has been some use

thank you for the info managed to remove the air con. unit thats stopped the noise,probly get red hot summer now!!!
