I have a ford focus 1.6 2001 y Reg car with an annoying rumbling sound which i can't make out where it is coming from, i have tried out turning round the wheels from the bearing noise but can't hear anything.

It may be something else (cv joint is somewhat common) but wheels should spin free and silent with good bearings - if not find out why not.

While hoisted note any free play. Even trashed bearings have some time where they wont show free play but when spun would make a distinct sound.

Hard to say - could be an exhaust issue??

Don't be afraid of getting some pro help even if just diagnosis if you are capable of fixing it yourself,

T

PS: In nothing else make sure wheels are properly tight!

It is most likely a bad hub bearing. Try this, drive straight until the noise starts ans then swerve left to right. If the noise gets louder one direction and quieter to the opposite direction, it's likely a bearing.

Don't rule out the tires either. Try rotating them first to see if it changes anything.
