Oil from valve covers please help Sign In

Hey all! So my 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2L V8 is lacking power. I've been noticing some slight oil leakage on the under side. But that's not the entire problem it's losing oil and I can clearly see oil leakage very faint oil leakage around the pcv valave on the drivers side valve cover and then also I can see the same thing on the passengers side valve cover right where the crankcase breather grommet is. I read somewhere that it's from blowback. Any thoughts as to what it is? I've replaced the pcv valve already it was dead but it seems to have gotten alittle worse from when I changed the valave out.

Just because you have oil leaks doesn't necessarily mean it is a blow by problem.

How many miles on this? Check engine light on? If so, have it scanned and write down the code(s) number(s).

Did anything happen or was there previous repairs prior to the problem you are having now?

No codes and no major repairs to cause the oil leaks. The leaks are coming from both grommets. And as for the miles it's 103000 on original equipment.

did you scan for codes ? or thinking no light no codes?
has engine overheated?
any reason to suspect sludge- poor oil change routine? thinking here is poor return flow in head.

you might want to look at the PCV system- be sure the engine is breathing, - with engine running remove oil fill cap- place your hand over hole, is there alot of air being vented out? is it oily ?

There are no codes, I have a code reader and it's showing no codes what so ever. It has over heated in the past but that was due to coolant problems which I fixed. I'm not sure about poor blow return to the head.

I checked the pcv system like you said to with removing the oil cap while it's running and there was no air being sucked in or blowing out at all.

Also I'm not sure if it is connected but I also can clearly hear a knocking sound from the passengers side engine compartment. But only while it's at idle and even then it will shut off sometimes.

Maybe you should remove a valve cover to inspect underneath it. Make sure you don't have some really bad sludge build up going on.
