Need help! Strange noise on a '85 Chevette! Sign In

Hi!

My car is a 1985 chevy chevette. Engine is the 1.6 4cyl. It has the automatic transmission.

The car is making a strange buzzing noise that increases with engine RPM (still does it in neutral). Does it more when car is hot. It sounds like a living bird right in the engine! The car has a new radiator, new heater core. There is no coolant leak. The transmission fluid is a bit leaking (2-3 drops per day), I just put some anti-leaking fluid to help reduce the problem.

Does anyone knows what can explain that strange noise? Could it be a loose belt or a pulley? Is it the alternator? It really sound like a screaming bird!

Thank you! Smile

Check the trans fluid level and power steering fluid level.

? Yes check the level as HT suggested but I've never really heard this both buzzing and "bird chirp" sound by just one thing. That chirping is probably loose, worn or just a bad fan belt which shouldn't make the buzzing sounds,
