Light Grinding Sound From Front End Sign In

I have a '99 Intrigue that has a light grinding noise coming from the front end as you drive along. The noise starts at about 20mph and steadily increases as you accelerate. As you drive turing the steering wheel from side to side slightly affects the noise. If you turn slightly to the left it almost disappears and if you turn slightly to the right it sounds a little worse. Also, as you accelerate from a stop the "Low Trac" light will come on intermitantly. Then once your up to speed if you hit the gas at all, like your going to pass for example, The "Trac Off", "Anti-Lock" and "Service Vehicle Soon" lights come on and stay on until the vehicle is restarted.

I have had both front wheels off and have checked the brakes (pads, rotors, calipers, wiring harness for anti-lock sensor) for anything bad or making contact with something it shouldn't be and it all looks fine. I looked at the CV boots and they look fine. The tires are good and are not rubbing against anything. Basically, I looked at everything around the wheels, brakes and axle that I could picture causing such a noise and everything looks fine.

I would appreciate any help you can offer with this problem.

Thank you

Try rotating the tires. If the noise follows a tire that's a good clue.

a bearing can cause this too. They don't heal so it will be there. Can be tough to figure which one till they get worse and can fool you in that it's coming from one side and the real culprit is the other. Hard to see and near impossible with a sealed unit bearing. Good bearings will spin silently in your hands but may be silent without a load on them, T

Sounds like wheel a bearing going bad. My experience found that right side bearings seem to go bad more frequently. Could be something to do with the curbs. The second thing I have found is that when one bearing goes bad the other one will go bad very soon especially in high mileage cars. Good luck.

Is it possible for a bad wheel bearing to cause those lights to come on like that?

I am going to get the tires rotated and rebalanced tomorrow, so I'll see if there's any change. I got the tires at Sam's Club so it won't cost me anything anyway.

Thanks for the information.

My guess is that a wheel bearing would have to be so bad to trigger any lights that this is not the problem right now, T
