Really hard to determine what your picking up with with your phone. Did you check the oil level? Is the check engine light on? Maybe your mechanic will have more answers.

Oil was recently change, like 500 miles ago, and the level is normal, the Check Engine is OFF. Yeah maybe he got better answer, but really want to have an idea whats happening.

Hard to tell - sorry.
I'll take stab for you. To me it just sounded like low oil or a sludged up engine from serious neglect but can't know that from the sound without more to check on.

BTW - new oil now doesn't take away ages of neglect.

Try this: Just remove oil cap and hope you can get a view inside valve cover and underside of oil cap. There should be metals and engine parts to see if anything a light bronze color only stain no build up of anything. Inside oil cap you shouldn't see build up of anything resembling fudge, crust just oily wet if recently run.

Engines may run well if this is a case of sludged up but the damage would have been done. Get a pro to check it out and confirm in person.

If and it's only a wild guess a total sludge out mess you'll never get over that IMO and again if so don't flush it just change oil much more often and hope it gets better. Requires hands on checking to damn a engine that badly and may not be correct at all - just a guess,

T

PS: (edited in) actual MPG is almost never what some sticker or listing for a car should be for the "city/hwy" estimates listed. Fuel is changed for Winter and tons more volatile for most areas so lose there alone plus colder uses more naturally. The listings are for comparison purposes not what your exact driving should do...........

It's not a dead forum. We are waiting for you to tell us what your mechanic came up with. We can't be accurate in telling you what is wrong with your vehicle without being there to actually hear for ourselves.

Thanks for reply!, I went to the mechanic, he said that noise is normal on this kind of engines and that rumble is even lower than newer elantra's models, that I shouldnt worry about it, this the thing, maybe he is right, but in my country (Honduras), mechanics arent really specialize, hard to find one that have read a book about engines, most of them learn working in a shop from another guy. There are few engine mechanics that are long trip to get to their shop and are really expensive, the mechacnics we use to are not bad, but they tend to miss some information, and some of them just lie about the issues to bill more, mine doesnt do that, but I dont think the sound and rumble is normal...

I will do the test of uncapping the oil cap and see inside and will come back with a reply, and if possible, some pictures.

Thanks again for replaying.

Please remember I said a guess. You can check some things yourself I hope. I just sounded a but "busy" sounding to me not really that easy to blame anything without I guess YOU checking.

I disagree that this company by 2007 really exported engines much different in basics than they would to anywhere and are NOT busy sounding to me like valve train noise beginning that can be something else totally.

You can rule out sludged badly with some simple visual checks mentioned. Add looking at dipstick should clean off to an even color the entire length of it.

Not sure what to say if you lack true professional and fully trained auto mechanics to you?

So, if you find sludge and it still runs fine as expected say so and I can suggest some ways to stop it from getting worse and just maybe improve it.

As far as gas mileage goes it really takes a series of checking gallons/liters used over several checks to know what YOU personally should expect. Many filling pumps will shut off a bit sooner or later and the silly 1/2 gallon difference can show up as way off. Inconclusive without several in a row then average that.

Other: Forget temperature being the factor as Honduras climate should not have the extremes that would normally change expectations. I couldn't guess what controls there are that you get the amount you purchased either which is strictly watched in the US at point of purchase.

Check for anything that isn't attached well, loose or wobble to a belt driven item just because you can at least do that I hope and report back anything you find,

T

Hi,
So today I make the checks, in addition, there is no heat issues with the engine, also the oil was recent changed, but I dont even know the quality of oil they use, I am planing in change it again this weekend, I was planning use sintetic oil, a friend of my recommend me motorcraft 10-30W.
Also, my country has tropical climate, so the lowest the temp drops (which is this months) is 60F.
The result where, I had a ford explorer 2000 V6 4.0 Sport before this elantra, It might have a bit of sludge at the back of one picture, but the oil seems like low quality and thin in my opinion, maybe I am wrong, I also notice a smell as Gas, never felt it with my Ford, maybe cause I check it just after turning the engine OFF after been 30min ON.

I Attach some pictures.

Thanks for your time

PD: EDIT I make some additional check, like checking the engine supports, and the belt, or if anything is miss in place, but everything seems good.

OK - Picture IMO rules OUT sludge for this.
Noises are a pest to describe and be sure. I'd say try a short run time with a serpentine belt for accessories off to see if noise is gone to isolate if an accessory noise or not. Just very quickly and while off can spin belt driven items and feel for a problem while off especially if noise is gone,
