Humming Noise Sign In

I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer Ext. with 4.2liter inline 6 engine I have 74,000 miles on this vehicle and there is a humming noise. I changed my brakes and my rear rotors because they were worn and thought that would take care of it, but it didn't. The humming noise is still there. The faster you are going the louder it is and when you turn the wheels to one side or the other, it gets louder. The mechanics where I have taken it have speculated different problems, but none are sure. Any ideas?

Re: Humming Noise '06 Trailblazer Sign In

This suggests a belt driven item probably the PS pump not so likely a wheel thing except perhaps a bearing. Certainly check PS fluid level and if low find out why! Changing the fluid might have a chance of saving it if it's the source and doesn't hurt to do that anyway.

Bearings on engine driven items can hummm. Bearing for wheels usually growl.

You could take the belt off just for a test, not long and spin the items it turns, then rev engine and if noise is gone it would be a belt driven item. Again - don't run engine long for this test without a belt! For wheel bearings it's tough but spin each wheel for freeplay and noise. Good ones are silent.

Noises are tricky over the web like this but that's where I'd start,

T

Even by a pro bearings can be tricky depending on how bad they are. Some I'm not sure of till I have the old one in my hands. For wheels sometimes early on the symptoms don't show well without the weight of vehicle on them so tricky at first. Easy when trashed but you don't want to go there - trust me,
