Honda CRV Clunking noise in rear when brake depressed Sign In

I have a Honda 2003 Honda CRV AWD with 25000 miles on it. Recently, I have been hearing a clunking noise coming from the rear of the car when the brake pedal is depressed at stoplights, etc. The sound stops when the brake pedal is not depressed. I have no idea what this is...but then, why would I - as I am a "car idiot". I am taking it for service but would like to know the possible problems it could be before I take it in. I don't want to come off as a "smart alec" to the service folks....I just want to have an idea of what I might be in for. I have decided not to drive it (except to get it to the repair shop) until it gets fixed...just in case it is something that might be dangerous for myself or others.

I'd just have them do a full brake service on it.

You're just going to have to wait until they inspect is and see what they recommend. We can't advise you until someone gives us some kind of idea what the noise is and where it's coming from.

Thanks to those who posted. Took the car in. Loose heat shield. That's it. They didn't even charge me for the inspection or correction.

That's a happy ending
