Grinding @ slow Speeds on '01 Sunfire Sign In

My '01 Pontiac Sunfire has approx 127,000 miles on it... I've replaced roders and had tires rotated when i first got the car and replaced tires this spring and had no problems... as far as break work or that area, that's all that's been done to the car since i've owned it in 2005.

I've noticed about a week ago while i was breaking waiting to turn left on a busy road, my car was making a grinding noise like i was dragging something. It seemed to be from the front of the car... I checked and nothing was dragging... I noticed it again that day and checked all the tires to make sure it wasn't tire related...

I may have gone a day or 2 with no noise and it's back again, but more frequently. I thought it might have been the break pads grinding metal to metal but it's not always consistent...

It always happens when i'm going under 20 miles an hour. if it happens at a stop it usually stops before acceleration but yesterday it continued until i hit about 20 mph. if i break hard it doesn't do it. I notice it a lot in parking lots or slow stops at lights like when i gradually move forward and lightly press the break. I also dont happen to notice a shake or vibration, just a grinding noise like i'm dragging something. It's never any louder or quieter. Almost so loud i hear it over my radio at a moderate volume.

any suggestions and price ranges are helpful. I want to do some research before I take it to a mechanic.

You can do all the guessing you want but until someone removes the wheels and inspects the brakes, your just not going to know what the problem is. Be sure to check for the backing plate touching the rotor too.

Thank you. I'll have someone take a look at it, then.
