Ford Escape 2003 Sunroof Sign In

1. I just started getting a rattling noise coming from the sunroof area more near the rear view mirror area. It doesn't start until I hit around 60 mph then rattles until I go below. This is a ford escape 2003.
Can I fix this? I got new tires and alignment to try and fix but did not help.

2. Coolent has been draining fast also, motor leaks clear liquid that stains driveway? Meter doesn't indicate any over heating yet. Crack in gasket or radiator?

120,000 miles ford escape

Thanks

Something is loose on the roof and the wind at that speed is causing it to rattle. Look for a loose molding or something like that.

Have the coolant system pressure tested to find out where it is leaking at. You shouldn't be driving it until you locate the source of the leak and repair it.

Definately take care of the cooling system NOW. There's a fair chance this sunroof has nothing to do with Ford at all. You may need to find out who made it for info if you have to dig into it for the rattle?

Re: Ford Escape 2003 Sunroof Sign In

On the outside of the top of the windshield the weather strip was peeling off I saw. Before I went to go get gas I put it back into place with out any glue and drove at high speeds, no rattles. I will look into replacing the weatherstrip at the top of the windshield.

I am keeping an eye on the anti freeze to see if anymore fluid is being leaked. I cannot know for sure yet if it is the anti freeze or the extra freon/condensation dripping with a little bit of grime that is getting on my driveway. Freon and anti freeze are on the same side where the drip is located. I drew a line on the antifeeze tank if it drops below anytime soon then Ill know for sure.

Freon doesn't drip. Refrigerant is a gas. That would be straight water and you should be able to tell the difference from coolant.

What ever leak I did have has stopped after I got the tire alignment and new tires. I think the shaking of the car at high speeds might of caused some of the leaks some how.

I am going to change the oil/filer and bought some BARS LEAKS to try out.

For right now it only looks like condensation leaking, but ill post back if anything changes.

Put a white piece of paper or paper towel under drip. Water (condensate) made by A/C use should dry out to nothing. Antifreeze even if the clear stuff won't dry so fast or show the color.

Gotta know and take care of it if antifreeze no matter what it takes.

The condensate can be little or none depending on the RH of the day. If wildly humid some can make quite a puddle normally and should to ground not even to interior of a vehicle.

Gotta know which one and a no brainer, don't taste it! Antifreeze is poison!

Back - that weather strip probably requires take windshield out. AYOR - you can break them easily trying. Auto glass shops are good at it or perhaps can seal it in place. I strongly suggest letting the job go out for the fix as windshields are their own thing. Most regular shops I know don't do them and most auto glass companies will come to you - work home or whatever. Some jobs they will say so many hours before driving it - your call on that.

More on that, if windshield has been replace some are such cheap junk they just don't fit right - been their for a person in the livery biz and couldn't use the car it made like a harmonica noise so bad it was obnoxios! Not broken but needed a new quality windshield. Windshield are marked low left or right usually as to who made it,

Bad, bad idea. All you can do is plug up the whole system and then you will be replacing the radiator and heater core.

Forget the stop leak as HT said. That's about like pouring dry cement mix in your system. It might stop a leak that you don't even know TMK where but will probably (most of the time) heater will fail or radiator so poor to flow overheating will commence can mess up the pressure cap.

It can't even stop certain leaks not matter what that junk claims. Take it back, find the leak and fix it or know exactly what it is and where,

Re: Ford Escape 2003 Sunroof Sign In

I bought the BARS Leaks and rubber seal for the windshield online both for 14$ total. If putting the broken piece of rubber in the windshield temporarily fixed it, I think replacing it and adding string adhesive will solve the problem.

I think I will take the SUV into the ship tomorrow to get he antifreeze problems taken care of, and ill post back what information I get back. One thing to keep in mind is that the leak I have is clear, same texture as the antifreeze, but not the same color. Maybe it is the same color I just can't tell since there's not enough of it leaking. But it is a significant leak, every time the car is ran it loses antifreeze, even worse for short trips, none lost reall I can on 30+ miles trips.

After the leak is fixed, could it harm the engine to use the bars leak can? Already ordered it so might as well try it out, but after I fix the antifreeze leak.

Re: Ford Escape 2003 Sunroof Sign In

Don't use sealers for coolant. Now what you are describing could be a water pump if it can go a longer trip and not leak. Reason could be the seal of a spinning shaft may tighten when pressure builds up and leak more with no or low pressure. If that type of coolant leak sealers don't work and still harm the cooling system so it's a lose-lose situation.

I can't see your problem with the windshield rubber and don't understand it totally and wouldn't without looking that you can just stick some piece back and it stop the leak?
